原版书《Lean in》pdf

It 12:30 am, I am stillwatching this stupid black and white short film over and over again, while whatI am really supposing to do is to apologies to someone important to me.
Here comes the name of thisfilm, “Are You the Favourite Person of Anybody?”
Following is the script ofthis short film. Please do not expect it to be flawless as I never bother tocheck it after I wrote it down….….
It started as a short storywritten by Miranda July - one of my favourite actress and director.

SCRIPT

Interviewer: Are you anybody's favourite person?

Woman: What?
Interviewer: Are you the favouriteperson of anybody?
Woman: Er...
Interviewer: I can give yousome more time to think about it?
Woman: No, no, it's ok...
Interviewer: Cause you knowsome very proud people are not anybody's favourite person, for that it doesn’t necessary that…
Woman (interrupt): I am.
Interview:You are?
Woman: Yeah. Er, my ex-girlfriendChristine.
Interviewer:Ok, great. So can I ask you how sure you are of this? You are very certain,confident, you think so, not so sure, could be?
Woman: I am very certain.
Interviewer:Er….That’s the highest….the top.
Woman: ..er, what’s the one underneaththat?
Interviewer:Confident?
Woman: Er…
Interviewer:Then the one under that is you think so.
Woman nods.
Interview:that one?
Woman: yeah.
Interview:ok. Great. This’ been really helpful. Thanks.
Woman:...
Interview:so you know, cause anyone else you think might want to take the survey, couldyou just send them down?
Woman: yeah, ok, I will.
Interview:ok, thanks again.
Interviewer: Are you the favouriteperson of anybody?
Man: What?
Interviewer: Are you anybody'sfavourite person?
Man:no.
Interviewer:are you sure?
Man:yep, definitely.
Interviewer:ok , then , can I ask you how sure you are? Are you very certain, confident,you think so, not so sure, or could be?
Man:I am very certain.
Interviewer:that’s the highest
Man:I know.
(Silent…..)Interviewer: do you want an orange?
Man:what?
Interviewer: my wife wants me to get rid of some of theoranges, we have three trees just keep producing
Man:so it’s free?
Interviewer:totally free. You would be doing us a favour.
Man:can I take two?
Interviewer:yap.
Man:my girlfriend might like one.
(Silent…..)Interviewer: take three.
Man:are you sure
Interviewer:yap.
Man:terrific. These are good oranges. Thanks
Interviewer:thank you.

….above was written in last year when I was still in Auz. Sadly, I cannot remember who theperson is I mentioned at the beginning. Still, it is interesting to dig thisout and read it again as I was tidying up my computer. I also read the screenshotI saved since I been to the forum. In no second, all memories crack out.
A whole year has past and so many things happened. People comes, people goes. To most of the things, nothing much I could possibly do. I am such a sadisticperson. I guess my sis was right, at least part of what he said about me --- I am a hopelessly selfish person. Most of the things I did, I only tended tosatisfy myself instead of putting any other person on priority. Maybe any temptsto explain myself would ends up like an excuse.

Sometimes it's good, sometimes it became so unbearable.

There are times that I still feel like to love again likeI was never been hurt before.

Or maybe I am just a jerk who desires no love atall

=.= BTW plz ignore my spelling and grammer mistakes...

SONNET #1

by: William Shakespeare

FROM fairest creatures we desire increase,

That thereby beauty's rose might never die,

But as the riper should by time decease,

His tender heir might bear his memory;

But thou, contracted to thine own bright eyes,

Feed'st thy light's flame with self-substantial fuel,

Making a famine where abundance lies,

Thyself thy foe, to thy sweet self too cruel.

Thout that are now the world's fresh ornament

And only herald to the gaudy spring,

Within thine own bud buriest thy content

And, tender churl, mak'st waste in niggarding.

Pity the world, or else this glutton be,

To eat the world's due, by the grave and thee.

就应把记忆交给娇嫩的后嗣;

WHEN forty winters shall besiege thy brow

And dig deep trenches in thy beauty's field,

Thy youth's proud livery, so gazed on now,

Will be a tottered weed of small worth held:

Then being asked where all thy beauty lies,

Where all the treasure of thy lusty days,

To say within thine own deep-sunken eyes

Were an all-eating shame and thriftless praise.

How much more prasie deserved thy beauty's use

If thou couldst answer, 'This fair child of mine

Shall sum my count and make my old excuse,'

Proving his beauty by succession thine.

This were to be new made when thou art old

And see thy blood warm when thou feel'st cold.

LOOK in thy glass, and tell the face thou viewest

Now is the time that face should form another,

Whose fresh repair if now thou renewest,

Thou dost beguile the world, unbless some mother.

For where is she so fair whose uneared womb

Disdains the tillage of thy husbandry?

Or who is he so fond will be the tomb

Of his self-love, to stop posterity?

Thou art thy mother's glass, and she in thee

Calls back the lovely April of her prime;

So thou through windows of thine age shalt see,

Despite of wrinkles, this thy golden time.

But if thou live rememb'red not to be,

Die single, and thine image dies with thee.

说现在这庞儿应该另造一副;

UNTHRIFTY loveliness, why dost thou spend

Upon thyself they beauty's legacy?

Nature's bequest gives nothing but doth lend,

And, being frank, she lends to those are free.

Then, beateous niggard, why dost thou abuse

The bounteous largess given thee to give?

Profitless userer, why dost thou use

So great a sum of sums, yet canst not live?

For, having traffic with thyself alone,

Thou of thyself thy sweet self dost deceive:

Then how, when Nature calls thee to be gone,

What acceptable audit canst thou leave?

Thy unused beauty must be tombed with thee,

Which, usèd, lives th' executor to be.

造化的馈赠非赐予,她只出赁;

你未用过的美将同你进坟墓;

THOSE hours that with gentle work did frame

The lovely gaze where every eye doth dwell

Will play the tyrants to the very same

And that unfair which fairly doth excel;

For never-resting time leads summer on

To hideous winter and confounds him there,

Sap checked with frost and lusty leaves quite gone,

Beauty o'ersnowed and bareness everywhere.

Then, were not summer's distillation left

A liquid prisoner pent in walls of glass,

Beauty's effect with beauty were bereft,

Nor it nor no remembrance what it was:

But flowers distilled, though they with winter meet,

Leese but there snow; their substance still lives sweet.

带到狰狞的冬天去把它结果;

AS a decrepit father takes delight

To see his active child do deeds of youth,

So I, made lame by Fortune's dearest spite,

Take all my comfort of thy worth and truth.

For whether beauty, birth, or wealth, or wit,

Or any of these all, or all, or more,

Intitled in thy parts to crownèd sit,

I make my love ingrafted to this store.

So then I am not lame, poor, nor despised

Whilst that this shadow doth such substance give

That I in thy abundance am sufficed

And by a part of all thy glory live.

Look what is best, that best I wish in thee.

This wish I have; then ten times happy me!

LET me confess that we two must be twain

Although our individual loves are one:

So shall those blots that do with me remain,

Without thy help by me be borne alone.

In our two loves there is but one respect,

Though in our lives a separable spite,

Which though it alter not love's sole effect,

Yet doth it steal sweet hours from love's delight.

I may not evermore acknowledge thee,

Lest my bewailèd guilt should do thee shame;

Nor thou with public kindness honor me

Unless thou take that honor from thy name:

But do not so; I love thee in such sort

As, thou being mine, mine is thy good report.

NO more be grieved at that which thou hast done:

Roses have thorns, and silver fountains mud;

Clouds and eclipses stain both moon and sun,

And loathsome canker lives in sweetest bud.

All men make faults, and even I in this,

Authorizing thy trespass with compare,

Myself corrupting, salving thy amiss,

Excusing thy sins more than thy sins are;

For to thy sensual fault I bring in sense

(Thy adverse party is thy advocate)

And 'gainst myself a lawful plea commence;

Such civil war is in my love and hate

That I an accessory needs must be

To that sweet thief which sourly robs me.

Biu

三四

WHY didst thou promise such a beauteous day

And make me travel forth without my cloak,

To let base clouds o'ertake me in my way,

Hiding thy brav'ry in their rotten smoke?

'Tis not enough that through the cloud thou break

To dry the rain on my storm-beaten face,

For no man well of such a salve can speak

That heals the wound, and cures not the disgrace:

Nor can thy shame give physic to my grief;

Though thou repent, yet I have still the loss:

Th' offender's sorrow lends but weak relief

To him that bears the strong offense's cross.

Ah, but those tears are pearl which thy love sheeds,

And they are rich and ransom all ill deeds.

你的愧赧也无补于我的心疼;

FULL many a glorious morning have I seen

Flatter the mountain tops with sovereign eye,

Kissing with golden face the meadows green,

Gilding pale streams with heavenly alchemy;

Anon permit the basest clouds to ride

With ugly rack on his celestial face,

And from the forlorn world his visage hide,

Stealing unseen to west with this disgrace:

Even so my sun one early morn did shine

With all-triumphant splendor on my brow;

But, out alack, he was but one hour mine,

The region cloud hath masked him from me now.

Yet him for this my love no white disdaineth;

Suns of the world may stain when heaven's sun staineth.

偷移向西方去掩埋他的污点;

带着辉煌的光华临照我前额;

IF thou survive my well-contented day

When that churl Death my bones with dust shall cover,

And shalt by fortune once more resurvey

These poor rude lines of thy deceasèd lover,

Compare them with the bett-ring of the time,

And though they be outstripped by every pen,

Reserve them for my love, not for their rime,

Exceeded by the height of happier men.

O, then vouchsafe me but this loving thought:

'Had my friend's Muse grown with this growing age,

A dearer birth than this his love had brought

To march in ranks of better equipage;

But since he died, and poets better prove,

Theirs for their style I'll read, his for his love.'

THY bosom is endearèd with all hearts

Which I by lacking have supposèd dead;

And their reigns love, and all love's loving parts,

And all those friends which I thought burièd.

How many a holy and obsequious tear

Hath dear religious love stol'n from mine eye,

As interest of the dead, which now appear

But things removed that hidden in thee lie!

Thou art the grave where buried love doth live,

Hung with the trophies of my lovers gone,

Who all their parts of me to thee did give;

That due of many now is thine alone.

Their images I loved I vew in thee,

And thou, all they, hast all the all of me.

(它们的消逝我只道已经死去);

WHEN to the sessions of sweet silent thought

I summon up remembrance of things past,

I sigh the lack of many a thought I sought,

And with old woes new wail my dear time's waste:

Then can I drown an eye, unused to flow,

For precious friends hid in death's dateless night,

And weep afresh love's long since cancelled woe,

And moan th' expense of many a vanished sight.

Then can I grieve at grievances foregone,

And heavily from woe to woe tell o'er

The sad account of fore-bemoanèd moan,

Which I new pay as if not paid before.

But if the while I think on thee, dear friend,

All losses are restored and sorrows end

带着旧恨,重新哭蹉跎的时光;

[很喜欢的一个故事集]The Canterbury Tales by.

When the sweet showers of April fall and shoot

Down through the drought of March to pierce the root,

Bathing every vein in liquid power

From which there springs the engendering of the flower,

凭其催生的力量使花开出来;

When also Zephyrus with his sweet breath

Exhales an air in every grove and heath

Upon the tender shoots, and the young sun

His half-course in the sign of the Ram has run,

And the small fowls are making melody

That sleep away the night with open eye

(So nature pricks them and their heart engages)

这是大自然拨弄着它们心声);

The people long to go on pilgrimages

And palmers long to seek the stranger strands

Of far-off saints, hallowed in sundry lands,

And specially, from every shire’s end

In England, down to Canterbury they wend

To seek the holy blissful martyr, quick

In giving help to them when they were sick.

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?

Thou art more lovely and more temperate.

Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,

And summer’s lease hath all too short a date.

你却比炎夏更可爱温存;

Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines

And often is his gold complexion dimmed;

And every fair from fair sometime declines,

By chance, or nature’s changing course, untrimmed:

金色脸容往往蒙上阴翳;

But thy eternal summer shall not fade,

Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st;

Nor shall death brag thou wander’st in his shade,

When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st.

So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,

So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

秀雅风姿将永远翩翩;

Shakespeare

Sonnet 29

When, in disgrace with fortune and men’s eyes,

I all alone beweep my outcast state,

And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries,

And look upon myself and curse my fate,

Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,

Featured like him, like him with friends possessed,

Desiring this man’s art and that man’s scope,

With what I most enjoy contented least;

愿有三朋六友和美貌之颜;

Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,

Haply I think on thee, and then my state,

Like to the lark at break of day arising

From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven’s gate;

For thy sweet love remembered such wealth brings

That then I scorn to change my state with kings.

Macau is a City with great wonders.

I've been to Macau so many times. Well, it's mainly because I can go to see my cousin. ~37!

However, as a city, I think one line describes it well, CITY OF DREAMS. I've went to Macau via boat, plane, road and car. It is fascinating how so many people can fit into one small island.

As a city that was colonised by the portugeuse government, Macau has some truly wonderful and/ or exotict architectures and history. Close to HK, Macau exceled however, not in finance, but rather in Gambling.

It's government income are based largely on the tax from gambling industry. Despite that, the citizens of Macau actually have great living incentives.

It is called the EASTERN LAS VEGAS, and this is easily seen by the fact that it has so many stunning lights and of course, the dazzling casinos. As a byproduct, the industry of luxury shops flourished in Macau. #1923#

Go to the casinos, City of Dreams, The Venetian, Galaxy ...... The first sight of them are their wonderful architectures. And then the stunning lights at night and the ever production of noise and shows. Here you see families, you see couples you see gamblers. You will of course see the joy, tears and bizzare of gambling. And this, ladies and gentlemen, is the City of Dreams.

1.The fact that the ancient Roman world still existed in Italy in ruins only added to sense of cultural loss that struck the founders of this profound rebirth.

上下文

during the high Renaissance, artists, philosophers, and scholars recognized for the first time in western history that classical antiquity had died—its literature, its architecture, and its artistic emphasis upon man—and that the dead past deserved to be reborn. The fact that the ancient Roman world still existed in Italy in ruins only added to sense of cultural loss that struck the founders of this profound rebirth. That's one key to knowing what the high Renaissance was all about and why it was so significant.

第一个是同位语从句 ( that the ancient Roman world still existed in Italy in ruins ) 解释说明The fact,其中两个in Italy in ruins修饰the ancient Roman worldstill副词修饰existed
第二个是定语从句sense of cultural loss that struck the founders of this profound rebirth.其中that做主语,指代前面的sense of cultural loss。后面的of this profound rebirth.修饰the founders

The fact only added to sense of cultural loss .
The sense of cultural loss struck the founders of this profound rebirth.
That( the ancient Roman world still existed in Italy in ruins )is the fact.

2.Hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope and you can make your life a splendid one.

理解Hew a stone.

Hew out of the mountain a stone.

Hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope.

The decision of the New York Philharmonic to hire Alan Gilbert as its next music director has been the talk of the classical-music world ever since the sudden announcement of his appointment in 2009. For the most part the response has been favorable to say the least. “Hooray At last” wrote Anthony Tommasini a sober-sided classical-music critic.

One of the reasons why the appointment came as such a surprise however is that Gilbert is comparatively little known. Even Tommasini who had advocated Gilbert‘s appointment in the Times calls him “an unpretentious musician with no air of the formidable conductor about him.” As a description of the next music director of an orchestra that has hitherto been led by musicians like Gustav Mahler and Pierre Boulez that seems likely to have struck at least some Times readers as faint praise.

For my part I have no idea whether Gilbert is a great conductor or even a good one. To be sure he performs an impressive variety of interesting compositions but it is not necessary for me to visit Avery Fisher Hall or anywhere else to hear interesting orchestral music. All I have to do is to go to my CD shelf or boot up my computer and download still more recorded music from iTunes.

Devoted concertgoers who reply that recordings are no substitute for live performance are missing the point. For the time attention and money of the art-loving public classical instrumentalists must compete not only with opera houses dance troupes theater companies and museums but also with the recorded performances of the great classical musicians of the 20th century. There recordings are cheap available everywhere and very often much higher in artistic quality than today‘s live performances moreover they can be “consumed” at a time and place of the listener’s choosing. The widespread availability of such recordings has thus brought about a crisis in the institution of the traditional classical concert.

  One possible response is for classical performers to program attractive new music that is not yet available on record. Gilbert‘s own interest in new music has been widely noted Alex Ross a classical-music critic has described him as a man who is capable of turning the Philharmonic into “a markedly different more vibrant organization.” But what will be the nature of that difference Merely expanding the orchestra’s repertoire will not be enough. If Gilbert and the Philharmonic are to succeed they must first change the relationship between America‘s oldest orchestra and the new audience it hops to attract.

2.1

As a description of the next music director of an orchestra that has hitherto been led by musicians like Gustav Mahler and Pierre Boulez that seems likely to have struck at least some Times readers as faint praise.

As a description

(of the next music director

(of an orchestra))

that (指 an orchestra) (has hitherto been led by musicians like Gustav Mahler and Pierre Boulez)

that (指 description) seems likely to have struck (strike sb as sth 给某人以某种印象) (at least) (some) (Times) readers as faint praise.

an orchestra that has hitherto been led by musicians like Gustav Mahler and Pierre Boulez

a description that seems likely to have struck readers as faint praise.

strike sb as sth

(at least) (some) (Times) readers ,括号中是对readers的限定说明。

That description seems a faint praise.

2.2

For my part I have no idea whether Gilbert is a great conductor or even a good one.

To be sure he performs an impressive variety of interesting compositions but it is not necessary for me to visit Avery Fisher Hall or anywhere else to hear interesting orchestral music.

理解

To be sure

he performs (an impressive variety of interesting) compositions

but

it is not necessary (for me ) 主语从句

to visit Avery Fisher Hall

Or (to) anywhere else

to hear (interesting orchestral )music.

it is not necessary

2.3

For the time attention and money of the art-loving public classical instrumentalists must compete not only with opera houses dance troupes theater companies and museums but also with the recorded performances of the great classical musicians of the 20th century.

2.4

One possible response is for classical performers to program attractive new music that is not yet available on record.

Its no surprise that Jennifer Seniors insightful provocative magazine cover story I love My Children I Hate My Life,” is arousing much chatter nothing gets people talking like the suggestion that child rearing is anything less than a completely fulfilling life-enriching experience. Rather than concluding that children make parents either happy or miserable Senior suggests we need to redefine happiness instead of thinking of it as something that can be measured by moment-to-moment joy we should consider being happy as a past-tense condition. Even though the day-to-day experience of raising kids can be soul-crushingly hard Senior writes that the very things that in the moment dampen our moods can later be sources of intense gratification and delight.”

The magazine cover showing an attractive mother holding a cute baby is hardly the only Madonna-and-child image on newsstands this week. There are also stories about newly adoptive and newly single mom Sandra Bullock as well as the usual Jennifer Aniston is pregnant news. Practically every week features at least one celebrity mom or mom-to-be smiling on the newsstands.

In a society that so persistently celebrates procreation is it any wonder that admitting you regret having children is equivalent to admitting you support kitten-killing It doesn’t seem quite fair then to compare the regrets of parents to the regrets of the children. Unhappy parents rarely are provoked to wonder if they shouldn’t have had kids but unhappy childless folks are bothered with the message that children are the single most important thing in the world obviously their misery must be a direct result of the gaping baby-size holes in their lives.

Of course the image of parenthood that celebrity magazines like Us Weekly and People present is hugely unrealistic especially when the parents are single mothers like Bullock. According to several studies concluding that parents are less happy than childless couples single parents are the least happy of all. No shock there considering how much work it is to raise a kid without a partner to lean on yet to hear Sandra and Britney tell it raising a kid on their own read with round-the-clock help is a piece of cake.

Its hard to imagine that many people are dumb enough to want children just because Reese and Angelina make it look so glamorous most adults understand that a baby is not a haircut. But its interesting to wonder if the images we see every week of stress-free happiness-enhancing parenthood arent in some small subconscious way contributing to our own dissatisfactions with the actual experience in the same way that a small part of us hoped getting the Rachel might make us look just a little bit like Jennifer Aniston.

3.1

It‘s no surprise that Jennifer Senior’s insightful,provocative magazine cover story,“I love My ChildrenI Hate My Life”is arousing much chatter – nothing gets people talking like the suggestion that child rearing is anything less than a completely fulfillinglife-enriching experience.

理解

,"I love My ChildrenI Hate My Life” (双逗号插入语,解释说明 story)

is arousing muchchatter (主语是story)

that (child rearing is anything less than a completely fulfilling life-enriching experience.)

For the truth was

, as Mulcahy had to acknowledge, pacing up and down his small office, that in spite of all the evidence he had been given of the president’s unremitting hatred, he found himself hurt by the letter wounded, to be honest, not only in his self-esteem but in some tenderer place,

in that sense of contract between people

that transcends personal animosities 个人的仇恨 and factional differences阵营的不同,

that holds the individual distinct from the deed and maintains even in the fieriest opposition the dream of final agreement and concord.
